Although the increase is modest, the adjustment reflects a gradual recovery in the global economy despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and tight monetary policies in major economies.

For Vietnam, a highly trade-open economy that relies heavily on exports, this improvement in the global economy is a positive signal. External demand may not be growing explosively, but it is showing greater stability compared with previous concerns about a sharp slowdown.

The recovery, though still fragile, is sufficient to support key export industries, thereby helping maintain Vietnam’s overall economic growth momentum in 2025. This serves as an important foundation for Vietnam to strengthen its export-oriented growth model amid continued global volatility.

GDP Growth Forecasts and Government Targets

International organizations have provided different GDP growth forecasts for Vietnam in 2025, reflecting their cautious stance toward ongoing uncertainties in the global economic landscape. The IMF projects Vietnam’s GDP growth at 5.2%, while the ADB has lowered its forecast to 6.3% for 2025. and 6.0% for 2026, citing tariff-related pressures. In contrast, AMRO and UOB have raised their forecasts to 7.0% and 6.9%, respectively, indicating stronger expectations for a recovery driven by domestic factors.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Government has set a minimum growth target of 8%, and the Ministry of Finance has even proposed a range of 8.3–8.5% to create a foundation for accelerated growth beyond 2025. In the first half of the year, GDP grew by 7.52%, the highest level in a decade, providing a positive basis for further expansion.

If this pace can be maintained, Vietnam’s full-year growth could approach the more optimistic forecasts, narrow the gap with the Government’s target, and reaffirm the effectiveness of the country’s traditional growth pillars: investment, consumption, and exports. (investment, consumption, exports).

Assessment

Vietnam possesses many favorable conditions to sustain strong growth momentum in 2025. The country’s demographic advantage, with a young labor force, competitive production costs, and a rapidly expanding middle class, is boosting domestic consumption and creating significant economic momentum. At the same time, e-commerce and modern retail systems continue to expand, demonstrating that digital transformation is becoming an important catalyst for consumer-driven growth.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) remains a key pillar, with both disbursed and adjusted capital increasing strongly, reflecting investor confidence in Vietnam’s stable business environment. The country is shifting its strategy toward high-tech sectors such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence, supported by strong investment attraction policies. This helps Vietnam reposition itself within the restructuring global supply chain.

In addition, digital transformation programs for businesses are increasingly viewed as essential for strengthening internal capabilities, optimizing operations, improving competitiveness, and creating a new generation of “4.0” workers..

2025 and the Digital Transformation Turning Point: Three Industries, One Vision

As highlighted in the June 2025 newsletter, Orthian and GHC emphasized the importance of the Digital Technology Industry Law and the significant development opportunities created by digital transformation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In this issue, we take a deeper look at digital transformation, focusing on three leading sectors in Vietnam’s technology adoption journey today: Education (EdTech), Healthcare (HealthTech), and Smart Agriculture (AgriTech).

1. High Technology: A Short-Term Trend or a Sustainable Growth Pillar?

In 2025, EdTech, HealthTech, and AgriTech have emerged as bright spots in Vietnam’s digital transformation journey. But are they merely temporary trends, or are they gradually becoming long-term growth pillars?

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the digital economy contributed nearly 20% of GDP in the first quarter of 2025, clearly demonstrating the essential role of technology in the economy.

The rapid progress seen today is not simply the result of a passing trend. It stems from supportive policies, rising market demand, and the maturation of digital infrastructure. These factors form the foundation for sustainable development rather than a short-lived phenomenon.

2. Drivers of Technology Adoption: From Practical Needs to a Supportive Ecosystem

Competitive pressure and social demand: EdTech expands access to education; HealthTech enables remote healthcare services; AgriTech improves agricultural standards for export markets.

Competitive pressure and social demand: EdTech expands access to education; HealthTech enables remote healthcare services; AgriTech improves agricultural standards for export markets.

Innovation-supporting policies: Sandbox mechanisms and tax incentives create favorable conditions for businesses, especially SMEs, to experiment with new technologies.

Investment resources and multi-dimensional collaboration: The participation of organizations such as Techcoop, EdTech startups, and collaborative models between hospitals and technology companies such as VinAI and FPT demonstrates the potential of combining domestic partnerships with international cooperation.

High-quality human resources are developing rapidly, accompanied by a growing wave of technology startups., đi kèm với sự bùng nổ của các startup công nghệ.

3. Key Technologies and Integration Capabilities: Reshaping Industry Operations

Several core technologies are contributing to the restructuring of business operations and competitiveness:

EdTech: Generative AI and VR/AR personalize learning experiences. Platforms such as Azota support more than one million teachers in grading and student monitoring (ViewSonic, 04/2025).

HealthTech: Blockchain enhances medical data security, AI assists in medical imaging diagnosis with approximately 95% accuracy (VinAI, 06/2025), and IoT enables remote patient monitoring.

AgriTech: AI- and IoT-integrated drone systems provide data on moisture levels, pests, and soil quality, helping save 40% of water usage and increase productivity by 25–30% in the Mekong Delta.

Although these three sectors have different characteristics, they share a common need for a flexible, scalable technology platform that complies with regulations and supports continuous integration. The ability to adapt and effectively connect technological solutions will determine whether businesses can maintain efficiency and create sustainable long-term value.

Technology Is a Lever, Not a Miracle

Technology is a growth tool, but achieving a digital economy that accounts for 20% of GDP requires transparent legal frameworks, high-quality workforce development, and stable infrastructure.
